I personally really enjoy these Obligato violin strings, but they're not for every instrument. If you've always thought your instrument was a bit too bright and sharp, these violin strings will probably be perfect. They can really soften up and add depth to your tone. If your instrument is already fairly deep sounding, they might just muddy up the waters.
On another note, they're also not the most powerful Obligato strings out there, so take that into consideration.

I bought a set, tried them on a few of my violins and can't say that they did anything for me. They took away any edge and interest from the violins, making it warm, soupy and bland. The gold e was unremarkable, except that it makes the set more expensive. They are heavy and not very responsive. I think from reading the boards, that people primarily buy them to tone down a brash, harsh, shrill violin. So they seem to be a fixer-upper string, if you have a misbehaving violin, they will make the sound more pleasant and smoother. However, on responsive high end violins, they take away the sizzle and spark.
I have also heard that they don't last long, and as one luthier joked, they're called "Obligato" because they oblige you to buy another set soon. Beware if the luthier fits a violin with Obligatos, he is trying to give you a warm rich sound on a violin that has the shrill nasties and only after the trial period is over do you realize the strings have gone false, and the sound has deteriorated.
That said, I'll give it 3 stars because I'm sure there are violins out there where these strings are a perfect fit for, and someone out there will swear by them and love them.

I have a slightly-bright violin and Obligatos are by far the best-sounding strings for it. They are warm, complex, and project well without being overbearing. I occasionally try another type of string but I always come back to these. For my particular violin, they are the best.

Wonderful strings...not just for students! (Saturday, 14 December 2019 14:29)
I've been loving Pirastro Obligato strings for several years now. I've been playing the fiddle for over 20 years and these strings are the most gut-sounding synthetic strings I've ever used. I've compared these strings to Pirastro Eudoxas (gut-core strings), and the tone is very similar. I've found that Violino strings sound nice & amp; warm right out of the package. There seems to be no harshness during the break-in period. Once the strings stretch, they hold their tuning wonderfully. I've used these strings for outdoor performances in South Louisiana heat & swam humidity with no tuning issues whatsoever. I highly recommend Obligato strings to anybody wanting the benefits of synthetic strings with the tone of a gut strings.
Great dynamics strings for violin (Saturday, 14 December 2019 23:50)
first time I am trying the Obligato, was surprised at the volume I was able to achieve while playing, getting used to the product and the types of sound I can get out of them, the quality is excellent. I am a fiddler. Only played the strings for a couple of days now. I was experimenting trying new strings going for a warmer sound, what I notice is that the sound is cleaner than some and the touch can be lighter.
Yes, worth the extra money! (Tuesday, 17 December 2019 20:15)
I have a good violin and have always used Pirastro strings. I thought, why would anyone pay more.
The strings are easier on the touch. I can reach those higher notes and get softer sounds much easier. The transition between positions is easier as well. I'm still breaking in the strings, but I look forward to hearing them after a week or two of play.
